Travelers Tales:
[My dear friends our next stop around the Greek islands is the lovely island of Leipsoi. Leipsoi is actually a complex of 30 islands which consist of 24 islets and 6 rocks at the northern part of the Dodecanese near to Patmos and Leros. The biggest island which is located in the center of the complex is called Leipsoi and is inhabited by around 800 residents.
I found myself there exactly 10 years ago during the mission of the Municipality of Karavas of Cyprus for twinning with the Μunicipality of Leipsoi. We took a flight from Athens to Kos and then with a catamaran to Leipsoi. The island is also connected with Piraeus (too long distance though), Leros, Patmos and Samos.
Leipsoi is really an island for relaxing holidays with blue and white background that has not been touched by tourism. It's virgin beauty, the turquoise waters and graphic paths will enchant you just like Calypso did to Odysseus and kept him there for 7 whole years according to Homer's Odyssey in Greek Mythology.
I would suggest that you try out the local delicacies and the delicious food as traditionally prepared by the locals. Also you could join them at the great traditional feast of "Panagia tou Charou" celebrated on the 23rd August. During the summer the locals organize wine festivals where you can try their famous sweet wine.
If you are like me and you love to take the boat and go around then you should definitely sail on the nearby islands and islets, where you may enjoy a meal literally on the beach (best meal I've ever had) and also look at refugees for sea turtles and the Monachus-Monachus seals.
I had an overall unforgettable stay at this small island since everyday I visited new beaches where the Greek pure beauty and magic is so dominant and powerful that is just breathtaking.
